You either die an angel or live long enough to see yourself become… Two-Face? Misha Collins, best known and extremely beloved for his role as the angel Castiel on Supernatural (above), has a new role: He’s been cast as DC Comics character District Attorney Harvey Dent in the pilot for The CW’s Gotham Knights.
According to Variety, the official description for this incarnation of Dent reads: “Dashing, with a swagger, Harvey Dent is Gotham’s charismatic, hard-charging District Attorney. With a rigid sense of right and wrong, Harvey’s idealism and single-minded quest for justice will ironically and tragically transform him into one of Gotham’s most feared supervillains, Two-Face.”
Gotham Knights is the latest DC series from super-producer Greg Berlanti and friends, but it’s not a Batwoman spinoff or connected to the upcoming video game with the same title. It’s just it’s own thing, apparently, and has been casting up a storm lately, first signing on Fallon Smythe and Tyler DiChiara to play the siblings Harper and Cullen Row, then adding another trio of fresh faces to the lineup of orphans and children of Batman’s enemies. Reportedly, these kids will team up with Batman’s “rebellious adopted son” when they’re all (all?) framed for Batman’s murder.
Collins is by far the best-known actor to join the show thus far, stepping into a role previously played by Billy Dee Williams, Tommy Lee Jones, and Aaron Eckhart (among others). He was in one hundred and forty-six episodes of Supernatural, but has also appeared on shows from ER to Ringer. I have never seen a single episode of Supernatural, yet Collins’ popularity is such that I am entirely aware that he played an angel, wore a trenchcoat, and had a moment in the show’s finale that broke a certain corner of the internet. He shared the news of his new role with a nod to the costume that made him famous:
