Zombies, as we know so very, very well, never stay dead. And so it is with the undead Evil Dead franchise, which crawls back to life in the form of Evil Dead Rise, a tale of, uh, sisterly love? Love with chainsaws, and the nastiest eggs ever.

Evil Dead Rise comes from writer-director Lee Cronin; its series pedigree comes in the form of executive producers Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland play estranged sisters Beth and Ellie, “whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.”
Ellie is a single mom raising three kids, which is hard enough before some nasty possession occurs. Kids, never read the creepy books you just happen to stumble across, okay? Just leave them alone. Keep ’em wrapped up. Let the grownups lie to you.
Anyway, there are plenty of appropriately blood-splattered moments in this trailer, but the most disturbing one is via the even more gorey Red Band trailer and involves a cheese grater. Everything else, my brain can file away as “absurd zombie nonsense.” That cheese grater moment? Every inch of my skin crawled.
Evil Dead Rise claws its way into theaters on April 21st.
