The first trailer for the movie adaptation of Veronica Roth’s acclaimed young adult novel Divergent has finally arrived! Fans got a chance to peek at it last month at San Diego Comic Con, and now it’s our turn.
It’s interesting how this trailer falls squarely into the Hunger Games tone of YA movie adaptations, as opposed to Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, The Host, or Beautiful Creatures. Shailene Woodley as Tris even sounds a little like Jennifer-Lawrence-as-Katniss. Further, there is A Boy, but the trailer predominantly centers around the society that the heroine lives in and how she has to become an active part of it in order to enact change within it.
Does this automatically make Divergent a more appealing movie? It will be an interesting question to explore next spring, when the movie is scheduled for release.
Also, is it because we’re grumpy adults or did it kind of seem like Kate Winslet was the hero?
Stubby the Rocket is the mascot of Tor.com and is definitely a poor blend of impulses and impurities.
