Even those who take no interest in the field of dragon naturalism (and who are you?!?) have heard of Lady Trent’s expedition to the inhospitable deserts of Akhia. Her discoveries there are the stuff of romantic legend, catapulting her from scholarly obscurity to worldwide fame. The details of her personal life during that time are hardly less private, having provided fodder for gossips in several countries.
As is so often the case in the career of this illustrious woman, the public story is far from complete. In The Labyrinth of Drakes, the fourth volume of her memoirs, Lady Trent relates how she acquired her position with the Royal Scirling Army; how foreign saboteurs imperiled both her work and her well-being; and how her determined pursuit of knowledge took her into the deepest reaches of the Labyrinth of Drakes, where the chance action of a dragon set the stage for her greatest achievement yet.
We are happy to reveal the full cover for Marie Brennan’s Labyrinth of Drakes, illustrated once again by dragon-master Todd Lockwood, who this time reduces us to a puddle by featuring the cutest widdle dragon hatchlingggggg.

Here are all four covers together. Dragons!
In the Labyrinth of Drakes is out from Tor Books on April 5, 2016. The third volume in the series, Voyage of the Basilisk, was recently released.
Todd Lockwood’s art is just grogeous. I didn’t think these covers could get better.
These are cool books. My one problem with them is that I wish there were less emphasis on the politics and more on the actual science that Isabella is trying to do. What would be really cool as an adjunct to this series would be if Tor published that in-universe text on dragon biology that she wrote (I forget the title) — like those “Hogwarts textbooks” we got for Harry Potter.
Anyone know how many volumes the series is aiming for in total?
Todd Lockwood has been creating beautiful and terrifying artwork for decades. Here’s hoping he does so for several more! Cheers brother!
I second the request for the publication of Lady Trent’s scientific works.
Yes! Just finished her latest one, I can’t wait til the next!!
This is amazing! I have devoured the first, second and third installments of this series and so proud of the way they look on my shelves. I CANNOT WAIT till this one comes out.
@2 There are going to be five volumes, last I heard.
Beautiful! They are all very good, though I liked Basilisk best so far, and am eager, EAGER! for this one. Darn, it’s a long wait until next April 5th.
I just finished The Voyage of The Basilisk and find myself eager to read this next installment. You can tell Marie Brennan has really grown as a writer since the first book, and I can’t wait to see what this next one has in store. It’s a long wait until April, truly!
