20th Century Fox is smartly not giving everything away in its Hidden Figures trailers; each one just fills in a little corner of the world. Like in this latest trailer, in which Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) jokes about three black women chasing a white police officer down the highway in 1961: “That is a God-ordained miracle.” But for all of Mary’s talk about equal rights, and despite the fact that she, Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), and Dorothy Vaughn (Octavia Spencer) work at NASA, things aren’t equal at all.
We also get to see more of Katherine’s work inventing the math to get man into orbit, and her fears about keeping up in the room—both in terms of numbers and as the sole black woman among white engineers.
There’s plenty more to be seen, but it looks like the studio is saving the most inspiring moments for its holiday audiences. Watch the trailer:
Hidden Figures comes to select theaters on December 25 and everywhere on January 6, 2017.
Dear film makers,
If you’re going to make a point of placing the scene in 1961, make sure you’re not following a car from the future (1964 Ford Galaxy in police livery)
/s one time owner of a ’64 Ford Galaxy
Quoth Natalie: “There’s plenty more to be seen, but it looks like the studio is saving the most inspiring moments for its holiday audiences.”
And yet, half the comments on YouTube are complaints that this trailer shows the whole movie. *wry grin*
Either way, though, this is a must-see. I’m a little pissed that they’re holding it back for January, so it will be utterly forgotten by the time Oscar nominating season rolls around…..

Is anyone else reading the book? I just started and it is really in depth.
Keith – it Comes out in Select Theaters Dec 25th — that is code for Oscar Qualified 2016. It just has play theatrically. Now select theaters will likely mean L.A. and N.Y. and the rest of us will have to wait until 2017
bobsandiego: Oh, okay, thanks. :)
