We still have to wait awhile for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, but show creators Ross and Matt Duffer have been working on the scripts and they’re so good, apparently, that they made Netflix executives cry.
During a Stranger Things event in Los Angeles this weekend (via The Hollywood Reporter), the Duffers and executive producer Shawn Levy teased (emphasis on the word “teased”) what’s coming in the final episodes of the series.
“We turned in the first script a couple of weeks ago and we’re onto the second,” said Ross Duffer. “It’s full steam ahead … I remember [in] Season One we were just amazed that Netflix was letting us do this at all, but Season Two was when we really, with the writers, we developed an overall plan and a backstory for all of this and make sure that, with the Upside Down, everything about what it was.”
That quote is kind of a nothing burger, but Matt’s brother, Ross, shared one other detail. “We did get our executives to cry,” he said, “which I felt was a good sign that these executives were crying. The only other times I’ve seen them cry were like budget meetings.”
It’s not surprising Netflix executives cried over the budget of the series, given the fourth season cost and impressive $30 million per episode. But the idea that Netflix bigwigs would cry over the actual story?! That’s something, folks!
No news yet on when the fifth season will make its way to the streaming platform. The first four seasons of the show, however, are available for your viewing pleasure on Netflix.
