If you think swimming pools are scary, then Universal Pictures in partnership with Atomic Monster and Blumhouse (the companies behind the very campy and very awesome M3GAN) have got the movie for you! There’s a horror film in the works called Night Swim, where the evil force flooding every crevice of the film comes from… a pool.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie comes from writer-director Bryce McGuire and is based on a short of the same name. It will have Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon as the leads, and though the plot of the film isn’t known yet, I sincerely hope it has some Lovecraftian vibes to it. (Someone’s done it with a certain something in the stall in a public men’s restroom after all, so a pool in comparison is downright mild in comparison.)
Russell is currently set to star in two other projects connected to big franchises. The first is the upcoming Godzilla series from Apple TV+ and Legendary, and the other is the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Thunderbolts, where he’ll reprise his role as John Walker, U.S. Agent (pictured above), the guy who tries to take over the Captain America mantle in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and ultimately fails.
Condon’s most recent released work is in The Banshees of Inisherin (a.k.a. the best movie I saw last year) as the sister to Colin Farrel’s character. She does wonders with the complex part, and I can’t wait how she takes her nuanced acting skills to a horror film about an evil swimming pool.
Night Swim is currently scheduled to premiere on January 19, 2024.
