At this point, should we call Scott Pilgrim vs. the World a classic? It came out thirteen years ago and is one of the quirkiest, most enjoyable comic book adaptations—due in considerable part to its excellent cast.
Now, that cast—yes, including Captains Marvel and America—is reuniting, in full, for an anime Scott Pilgrim series that has original Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley as one of its showrunners.
The show has been in development since January 2022, but only now is it officially ordered to series. O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski share showrunning, writing, and executive producing duties; Abel Gongora will direct; Science SARU provides the animation; and Edgar Wright, who directed and co-wrote the film, is also an executive producer.

O’Malley’s original Scott Pilgrim graphic novels follow the (mis)adventures of one Scott Pilgrim, a slacker musician who discovers he has to defeat the seven evil exes of his love, Ramona Flowers. Naturally, he learns a few things about himself in the process. The movie adaptation was not a smash hit, but became a bit of a cult film over the years. (I don’t know about you, but I can’t hear the Legend of Zelda fairy fountain music without remembering a certain scene from the film.)
