The MonsterVerse is getting animated with Netflix’s Skull Island, and the anime spawned from the Legendary live-action film Kong: Skull Island now has a teaser that not only gives us Kong, but a leviathan-sized octopus, giant bugs, and much more.
One thing Skull Island is good at is providing multiple horrific ways for any humans washed up on its shores to die. We see one guy get picked up by giant vulture-like bird in the teaser, and in addition to the murderous-looking giant bug and bird, there’s also a deadly beast that looks like a cross between a bulldog and a lion. Good times!
Here’s the feature’s synopsis (via CBR.com):
Skull Island takes viewers on a thrilling adventure as a group of kind-hearted explorers rescues Annie (Mae Whitman) from the ocean, unaware that their act of heroism will lead them to the treacherous Skull Island. This enigmatic place is home to bizarre creatures and terrifying monsters, including the mighty titan himself, Kong.
In addition to Whitman, Skull Island features the voices of the young Nicolas Cantu as Charlie (The Fabelmans), Darren Barnett (Never Have I Ever), Benjamin Bratt as Cap (Poker Face) and Betty Gilpin (Mrs. Davis). It comes from Powerhouse Animation, the studio that is also behind Castlevania.
This isn’t the only MonsterVerse project headed to the small screen. Back in January 2022, we found out that a live-action Godzilla television series was heading to Apple TV+, co-created by Matt Fraction. The two projects appear to be relatively separate, though it’s not clear yet if we’ve got a Marvel Cinematic Universe in the making where all these stories become interconnected.
Skull Island premieres on Netflix on June 22, 2023.
