The fourth season of Solar Opposites will see a new voice behind Korvo, and it all makes sense because science. It also all makes sense given that the show fired co-creator Justin Roiland, who previously voiced Korvo, this January in light of charges against him for domestic abuse. If the teaser for the upcoming episodes is any indication, however, the writers’ room hasn’t suffered from his absence.

The video above gives an appropriate rationale as to why Korvo’s voice changed so drastically. I don’t want to spoil it for you—it’s very much worth a watch—but I’ll leave you with Korvo’s (now voiced by Dan Stevens) final explanation for the change:

“Bollocks, I just dropped the pupa! This is ridiculous. I hate Earth. It’s a horrible home. People are stupid and confusing. This is what my voice sounds like now. I don’t care if it’s jarring. Get over it. And that voice-changer had chronotons in it so this is what I’m going to sound like in flashbacks, too. You got a problem with that? Then tough shit. It’s called science!”

If you watched FX’s Legion, took a gander at the live-action Beauty and the Beast remake, or were a fan of Downton Abbey, then you’ve seen Stevens in action. The actor has played a broad array of roles, but none quite like Korvo. Based on this teaser, though, it sounds like Stevens is more than up to the job. We can hear more of him as the alien with anger management issues when season four of Solar Opposites premieres on Hulu on August 14, 2023.
