Premiere dates and times across a world full of time zones were already confusing enough, but now they’re even more so. In June, we finally (finally) got a premiere date for Star Wars: Ahsoka. But despite countless trailers and TV spots and tweets and posts that said August 23rd, Disney+ has made a last minute change: Ahsoka will now appear for your viewing pleasure on August 22nd.
Disney+ isn’t the first platform to sneak its releases out a bit before their official go-times; to use just one example, I noticed halfway through The Expanse’s last season that the episodes were available in the evenings before their supposed Friday releases. But this is less a quiet early release than a very official announcement, courtesy of the official Ahsoka Twitter feed:
Thank you to all the fans who celebrated with us at our #Ahsoka fan events around the world last night!
We’re excited to announce that new episodes of #Ahsoka will now launch Tuesdays at 6PM PT, starting with our two-episode premiere on August 22, only on @DisneyPlus. pic.twitter.com/aANUtKRV7L

A certain response to this announcement is along the lines of “Now I don’t have to stay up until 3 am anymore!” which, friends, pals, fellow Star Wars lovers: You know it’ll still be available for you to watch after its premiere time, right? This isn’t like the olden days when you had to watch TV at the appointed hour. There are no prizes for being first! (Especially if you’re really really determined to get online and ruin it for everybody else the minute the episode airs.)
At any rate, a lucky few got to see the first two episodes at last night’s fan event, so be careful out there on the internet, where there always be spoilers.
Ahsoka premieres on Tuesday, August 22nd, unless they move it again.
