The Mandalorian & Grogu is the first Star Wars feature to go into production since the end of the Skywalker Saga with 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. The upcoming film will unsurprisingly feature Din Djarin (aka The Mandalorian) and Baby Yoda (aka Grogu), but The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed news first reported in The InSneider that an A-list actor with sci-fi bona fides is in negotiations to join the cast as well.
That actor is none other than Alien, Ghostbusters, and Avatar alum Sigourney Weaver. We don’t have news on what role she’d take on in the feature, which isn’t a surprise given we don’t know much about the plot from the upcoming film other than the title is clearly a riff on the samurai movie (which is based on a manga series of the same name), Lone Wolf & Cub.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is currently supposed to go into production later this year and will be directed by Jon Favreau (The Mandalorian, 2019’s The Lion King) and produced by Favreau, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, and Star Wars chief creative officer (and Ahsoka showrunner) Dave Filoni. The movie is currently slated to premiere in theaters on May 22, 2026.
In the meantime, you can watch the first three seasons of The Mandalorian (and The Book of Boba Fett, if you like) to get your Grogu fix.
