There are trailers, and then there are collections of vibes, and which you prefer is, well, an entirely personal preference. (Which feels more appropriate is, of course, entirely determined by the movie: said trailer is advertising.)

The all-vibes new trailer for Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux is, essentially, the same as the last trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux, in that it really doesn’t want you to know much about the movie beyond the basics: Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) winds up in Arkham Asylum, where he meets Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga). Chaos ensues. It looks very much like at least some of this chaos is entirely in their creative little brains, a theory borne out by the fact that Variety notes, “The film will reportedly take place mostly in Arkham Asylum.”

Variety also notes, “Gaga’s Harley Quinn will exist separately from Margot Robbie’s character, seen in Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad, and Kaley Cuoco’s animated character from the Max series.” This movie is not related to any of the new DC Studios movies, nor is it related to The Batman. The various DC movies exist in their own bubble universes, which is fine, if sometimes a lot to keep track of.

The film also stars Zazie Beetz (returning from the first Joker), Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey. The first Joker film became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, and earned 11 Oscar nominations (Phoenix and composer Hildur Guðnadóttir took home the little gold men).

Joker: Folie à Deux is in theaters October 4th. icon-paragraph-end
