A new Apple TV+ series starring Billy Crystal is far from funny. If the trailer for it is any indication, the show, called Before, is a supernatural thriller where Crystal’s character is haunted (perhaps literally!) by his dead wife as he tries to help a troubled child that he has an uncanny connection with.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Before stars Crystal as Eli, a child psychiatrist who, after recently losing his wife, Lynn (Judith Light), encounters a troubled young boy, Noah (Jacobi Jupe), who seems to have a haunting connection to Eli’s past. As Eli attempts to help Noah, their mysterious bond deepens, sparking haunting memories and unearthing unsettling secrets about the past.

Did I mention that that connection between Eli and Noah appears to involve an abandoned, most definitely haunted house?

In addition to Crystal, Jupe and Light, the show stars Rosie Perez, Maria Dizzia, and Ava Lalezarzadeh. Sarah Thorp (The Bounty Hunter) is the show’s creator and showrunner. She executive produces along with Eric Roth (Killers of the Flower Moon, Dune), with Adam Bernstein (Silo) directing the pilot.

The limited series will make its debut with the first two episodes on Friday, October 25, on Apple TV+ with one new episode every Friday through December 20, 2024.
