It’s not all rom-coms and teen dramas for Sydney Sweeney, who is probably best known for starring in Euphoria. She’s one of the spider-teens in the upcoming Madame Web, and she also stars in Immaculate, a religious horror film that finds her playing a young woman who’s both mysteriously pregnant and extremely terrorized. And none of it seems the least bit normal—though it remains to be seen how much of her suffering is supernatural wackiness and how much is human beings being awful.
The synopsis is less than forthcoming about the things that go bump in the night at the convent:
As if a freak pregnancy isn’t scary enough! We must make sure she suffers thoroughly, I guess. “How can we trust what’s inside you?” asks a fellow nun. Could her sisters not be a little more supportive?
Immaculate comes from writer Andrew Lobel, in his feature debut, and director Michael Mohan, creator of the Netflix series Everything Sucks, which featured Sweeney. The film also features Àlvaro Morte, Dora Romano, Giorgio Colangeli, Simona Tabasco, Benedetta Porcaroli and Giampiero Judica.
Immaculate is in theaters March 22nd.
