We reported on the animated Transformers movie in the works last week, specifically that it would take place on the planet of Cybertron and would feature young Optimus Prime and Megatron as chums instead of nemeses. Today, we got the movie’s official name—Transformers One—and also an A-list roster of actors voicing the characters.
Today during CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas, Paramount shared some footage from the upcoming animated feature and revealed (via /Film) the movie’s impressive cast. None other than Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth (pictured above), is voicing the young and spry Optimus Prime while his BFF/soon-to-be enemy Megatron is voiced by Brian Tyree Henry (Eternals, Bullet Train).
If that wasn’t enough, we also found out that other voice cast members include Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Scarlett Johansson as Alita, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
What a lineup! What’s not clear for all of these names, however, is if these live-action stars carry over to the animated space. Herny and Key clearly have, but those who heard Hemsworth’s work as Thor in Marvel’s What If…? may be scratching their chins right now.
The status of these stars, if nothing else, shows that Paramount is dead serious about making this animated feature a big thing. We can check it out when Tranformers One hits theaters on July 19, 2024.
