It started with a mystifying, blacked-out tweet—but within an hour, Apple TV had shared the secret. The upcoming Godzilla series from Chris Black (Severance) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye) is called Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
The last update on this show came over a year ago, when it was announced that the father-son duo of Kurt and Wyatt Russell would star in the series. They joined Anna Sawai (Pachinko), Kiersey Clemons (The Flash), Joe Tippett (Mare of Easttown), Elisa Lasowski, and Ren Watabe; the latest reports also have Mari Yamamoto and Anders Holm in the cast.

Apple TV describes the show like this:
Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga—spanning three generations—reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.
So Monarch is a secret organization, not a massive butterfly. Good to know.
This is the latest piece of Legendary’s Monsterverse, “an epic entertainment universe of interconnected stories that bring together popular culture’s most titanic forces of nature.” The Monsterverse as we presently know it began with the 2014 Godzilla and continues next year in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has a ten-episode first season, and the first two episodes are directed by WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman. No premiere date has been announced.
