The “special look” clip that Marvel released during last night’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is basically just an extended Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, but with one important addition: the Avengers getting drunk and playing Who Can Pick Up the Hammer!
We’ve known what was in this scene for months (thanks to the SDCC transcripts), but it’s so much better seeing it for real, especially with the music and the various facial expressions. It’s all very Whedonesque, especially Black Widow’s great line: “Oh, no no, that’s not a question I need answered.”
One odd thing is how it cuts from the ear-splitting sound of (presumably) Ultron coming to life to him actually standing in front of the Avengers. Clearly there’s a bit of a jump, as they look too calm at his talk of puppets and strings; plus that other machine corpse clearly wasn’t just sitting there at the party. We’ll be interested to see the movie fill in that blank, however small.
The rest of the footage is basically the same, except for one shot around 1:19 that wasn’t in the original teaser trailer: Black Widow staring at… something. Is it the diagram of the tesseract in the next shot, or the real thing?
We’ll get answers to these questions come May 1, 2015, when Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters—or perhaps sooner, with another teaser.
