The “second season” of The Human Division has a title! And more art by John Harris!

The End of All Things by John Scalzi is slated for release next year and has been in the planning stages since the successful serialization of The Human Division back in 2013. Specific plans for the release and number of episodes for The End of All Things have yet to be finalized.

Scalzi commented on his blog about the project:

As for the title, and what it means for the Old Man’s War universe, I will say this only that the book will continue (and complete) the story that was begun in The Human Division, and that things will come to an interesting place for everyone involved. It does not mean the end of my interest in the OMW universe, just to get ahead of any concerns or incipient rumors, although I do suspect that after TEoAT, I’ll take time off from the world, just like I did after Zoe’s Tale.

Here’s the full John Harris cover to The End of All Things:

From the jacket copy:

Humans expanded into space…only to find a universe populated with multiple alien species bent on their destruction. Thus was the Colonial Union formed, to help protect us from from a hostile universe. The Colonial Union used the Earth and its excess population for colonists and soldiers. It was a good arrangement…for the Colonial Union. Then the Earth said: no more.

Now the Colonial Union is living on borrowed time—a couple of decades at most, before the ranks of the Colonial Defense Forces are depleted and the struggling human colonies are vulnerable to the alien species who have been waiting for the first sign of weakness, to drive humanity to ruin. And there’s another problem: A group, lurking in the darkness of space, playing human and alien against each other — and against their own kind — for their own unknown reasons.

In this collapsing universe, CDF Lieutenant Harry Wilson and the Colonial Union diplomats he works with race against against the clock to discover who is behind attacks on the Union and on alien races, to seek peace with a suspicious, angry Earth, and keep humanity’s union intact… or else risk oblivion, and extinction — and the end of all things.

Each episode will be getting a new piece of original John Harris art ala The Human Division, as well. Check out all of his previous works in the Old Man’s War universe here.

oh good. it’s been 3 days since the last John Scalzi news.

I get it Tor, but please branch out a bit. We only had to deal with Lock In buildup for a year.

Always happy to see Scalzi stuff. I view us as owing him some after getting After the Coup (essentially, a prequel short story to the Human Division and the above new book) and Shadow War of the Night Dragons (Hugo winning) debuting on this site for free.

Don’t get me wrong. I like Scalzi’s stuff and will buy this, but i visit this site not only to hear about those authors that i already like, but also hopefully new authors. It just seems like he is a bit omni-present and it gets old. Just click on the Lock-in tag to see how far back they starting generating buzz for that book.

@3: “winning” -> “nominated”: that was the year of Ken Liu’s “The Paper Menagerie”. I enjoyed both “After the Coup” and “Shadow War of the Night Dragons: Book One: The Dead City: Prologue”, though I wouldn’t pick either for the Hugo.

: He’s one of Tor’s most recognisable authors; they will push him as much as they can. It’s like the Halo series.

Thank goodness. I thought it had won. SW is an enjoyable lark but I didn’t see it as an award winner.

I think Scalzi would have been a bit embarrassed if SWotND had actually won.
