In 2009, Seanan McGuire published her debut novel, Rosemary and Rue, to great acclaim. This novel not only launched the enduringly popular October Daye urban fantasy series, but formed the bedrock upon which Seanan’s career would bloom. Since this auspicious beginning, Seanan has so far published 18 novels in the series, alongside novellas and shorter fiction.

Three years later, Seanan would publish Discount Armageddon, the first book in her equally-popular InCryptid series, and one which has so far reached 13 novels, plus novellas and shorter works.

As the publisher of three more of Seanan’s series (Wayward Children, Alchemical Journeys and the Up-and-Under books), we could not be more delighted to welcome October Daye and InCryptid into the Tor Publishing Group family.

Tor Executive Editor Lee Harris said:

“When I joined Tor, Seanan was right at the top of my list of authors I wanted to bring on board. In the last eight years I’ve worked with her on eighteen books and a handful of short stories, and she remains not only one of my favourite people to work with, but one of my favourite people to read. Bringing Toby Daye and InCryptid to Tor is a dream come true, because all the Seanan is just the right amount. I’ll be working with my brilliant colleague Oliver Dougherty to make sure Seanan’s books are given all the love they deserve.”

Seanan said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be continuing these dear-to-my-heart series with Lee, and with the wonderful editorial team at Tor. I know I will be in good hands, and I’m so excited for all my readers to see what’s coming next. Big things ahead. Big, wonderful, terrible things….”

The first Tor book in the InCryptid, Installment Immortality, will be published in spring 2025, followed by our first October Daye book in the fall of that year.

The deal for North American rights for both series was brokered between Tor Executive Editor Lee Harris and Diana Fox of Fox Literary.

Awesome! I have been waiting with bated breath to find out what was going to happen since Seanan announced that her contract for the October Daye books had run out.

YES, and – I’d love it if Amazon would let Tor buy the rights to more Indexing.

YAY, more books in both series. I’m looking forward to it. The newest Incryptid is hard to read because I’m reading it in stops and starts. It’s very emotional.

Will there continue to be mass market paper editions? They’re among our favorite vacation reads.

I fell in love with McGuire’s writing from the Wayward Children series- I love a good portal fantasy! And then I found her other work (mostly when I’m probably supposed to be doing something productive on my computer), and thank goodness my library has e-copies, or I’d be seriously in debt from my reading patterns!! Can’t wait for the next book!

Yay! Maybe now we will get some short story collections in these worlds? And a new home for the Velveteen Vs. series?

Great news – and hopefully this may eventually lead to some international rights. I’d love to be able to buy ebook versions here in the UK.

Will Tor republish the old Toby Daye’s books as well? Will we see pretty hardbacks?
