Tomorrow is The Day of the Book. It’s also the birthday of some guy named William Shakespeare and as such people are celebrating by giving books out for free to celebrate World Book Night. Begun in the UK and Ireland in 2011, World Book Night has now spread to the US and Germany.
Every year thirty books are choosen by independent booksellers and librarians and then given out for free! This year there are several genre titles including Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens, Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief, Norton Juster’s The Phantom Toolbooth, and Mark Twain’s time travel classic; A Connnecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.
Here in New York City, Tor Books’ own Walter Mosley will be handing out books in Union Square Park! And we hear the ghost of a certain Samuel Clemens might be around! (One of these sentences is a lie.)
Check out The World Book Night website for details and to check out where you can score free books!
