Big news for the upcoming movie adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s Hugo-nominated Children of Blood and BoneDeadline has reported that the film has been picked up by Disney and found its new screenwriter in This Is Us‘ Kay Oyegun.

Plus, it just might be the first Lucasfilm feature property that isn’t Star Wars or Indiana Jones–at least since Disney bought the company. According to Deadline, Lucasfilm chief Kathy Kennedy is currently in talks to make this happen.

Previously, it was reported that the movie had been picked up by Fox 2000, with production by Temple Hill (the company behind the Maze Runner movies), a script by David Magee, and direction by The Mandalorian‘s Rick Famuyiwa. As of now, only Famuyiwa is staying on as director.

There’s no word yet on casting, plot, or a release date.

In case you haven’t read Children of Blood and Bone (which should be rectified immediately), here’s the official synopsis from Henry Holt and Co.:

Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.

Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.

Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers and her growing feelings for an enemy.

The book’s sequel, Children of Virtue and Vengeance, will be released on December 3. If Lucasfilm has anything to say about it, hopefully we’ll be seeing a whole series of Legacy of Orisha movies!
