According to Deadline, Slater will be a major lead in the series and will be playing “a capital-V Villain.” Mulgarath (and his alter ego Dr. Dorian Brauer) is really into eating people, as ogres often are.

The series, which is based on the eponymous young adult series by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi, focuses on the three Grace children who find a mysterious field guide in the attic of the old estate they just moved to that opens them up to the secret world of faeries that live around us. Mulgarath is a Big Bad of the books, and wants the guide for his own nefarious aims.

Slater comes to the series after impressive performances on Mr. Robot (pictured above) and Dr. Death. This is the first casting news we’ve gotten for the series, though we do know that Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key) is the showrunner and Kat Coiro (She-Hulk) will direct the first two episodes. This also isn’t the first time we’ve seen an adaptation of Black and DiTerlizzi’s books: in 2008, Nickelodeon and Paramount made a feature adaptation starring Freddie Highmore, Mary-Louise Parker, Martin Short, and Seth Rogen.

No news yet on when the adaptation will make its way to Disney+.
