Deadpool & Wolverine is chock full of cameos. But according to co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, there was talk of even more drop-ins from the Marvel Cinematic Universe than what we saw on-screen.

Warning! This post contains modest spoilers for an introductory scene from Deadpool and Wolverine. Read on at your own risk.

In an interview with IndieWire, Reese and Wernick talked about a slew of things that were on the table for Deadpool & Wolverine, including how they originally planned to have all six of the core Avengers be in the room where Wade Wilson/Deadpool meets with Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) near the beginning of the film.

“There was a version of that scene very, very early on that wasn’t written, but was conceived, that had all the Avengers in the room. And Wade was rejected and then he dressed all the Avengers down in a way only Deadpool could do,” Wernick told IndieWire.

Reese added that Deadpool would try to pick up Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir, and obviously fail.

But Wade’s pal Peter (Rob Delaney) would have no issues. “Peter casually picked up Thor’s hammer in the background. That was the joke,” Reese said. “Originally, Peter accompanied him there. There were never screenplay pages, but it was the idea of the scene.”

Thor, Steve Rogers, Jane Foster, Vision, and now…Sugar Bear. What a team.

The duo also confirmed that they tried to get Robert Downey Jr. to reprise Tony Stark/Iron Man for the scene Wade has with Happy, but that Downey declined, most likely in part because he was slated to take up the Doctor Doom moniker in the MCU. icon-paragraph-end
