One of the absolute best bits of Buffy the Vampire Slayer trivia has been confirmed by star Sarah Michelle Gellar: Yes, Dolly Parton was a producer on the show. To be more precise, she was a co-founder of Sandollar Productions, which produced Buffy, Angel, and the original, Kristy Swanson-starring Buffy film.
She even sent Christmas gifts!
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, Gellar confirmed the “little known fact” of Parton’s involvement, saying, “We never saw her. We’d get Christmas gifts in the beginning that would have our name, and I would think, ‘She doesn’t even know who I am.’ And then one day, somebody asked her about it and she complimented the show and my performance.”
Praise from a legend! Gellar continued, “I was like, ‘Oh, I can die now.'”
Gellar is doing the press rounds for her new series, Wolf Pack, but Buffy is a frequent topic for interviewers—both because of its influence and because of the stories and allegations about creator Joss Whedon that have come out over the years, many from other actresses on the show. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gellar said, “I will always be proud of Buffy. I will always be proud of what my castmates did, what I did. Was it an ideal working situation? Absolutely not. But it’s OK to love Buffy for what we created because I think it’s pretty spectacular.”
