The Fallout television adaptation in the works at Amazon has added Ella Purnell to the cast in a lead role.

According to Variety’s sources (though unconfirmed by Amazon), Purnell—whose previous credits include Yellowjackets, Army of the Dead (pictured above), and voicing Gwyn on Star Trek: Prodigy—will be playing a character who is “upbeat and uncannily direct with an all-American can-do spirit” who also has “an intensity in her eyes says she might just be a tiny bit dangerous.”

Cool!

Just like the video games it’s based on, the television version of Fallout will take place in the aftermath of a nuclear war. The series comes to us from Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel, Tomb Raider) and Graham Wagner (Portlandia, The Office) are also on board as co-showrunners.

Purnell will be joining Walton Goggins as a lead on the show, the latter of whom is reportedly (but not confirmed!) playing a character named Ghoul, which is also the nickname for irradiated humans who become grotesque, zombie-esque, and chock full of lesions.

This is all conjecture, but based on the description of Purnell’s character above, I can’t help but get some Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes here. Maybe she will end up facing down Goggin’s Ghoul at one point?

Who knows! We don’t know when we’ll find out either, as there’s no news on when Fallout will make its way to Prime Video. We do know, however, that production will start sometime later this year.
