John Jude Palencar, Muse and Reverie

I am proud to announce that John Jude Palencar has won this year’s Society of Illustrators’ Hamilton King Award for his artwork on Charles de Lint’s Muse and Reverie.

John Jude Palencar, World Fantasy Convention, AustinThe Hamilton King is arguably one of the most prestigious awards in the illustration community. It is given to the best painting in the Illustrators annual, as judged by past Hamilton King award–winners. While given to a specific work, it has, unofficially, come to signify a mid-career achievement award. Previous winners include Bernie Fuchs, Leo and Diane Dillon, James McMullan, Mark English, Brad Holland, Greg Manchess, Bob Peak, Donato Giancola….a “who’s who” of illustration since 1965.

The award ceremony and black-tie dinner will take place at the Society of Illustrators in June in conjunction with the Illustrators Hall of Fame inductions.

Not only is John an amazing artist, he is a caring individual deeply dedicated to his craft. I am thrilled for him and proud of Tor’s small part in this honor.

Irene Gallo is the art director for Tor, Forge, and Starscape books and Tor.com.

I’ve always been a fan of Palencar’s work- I found it through de Lint’s covers, in fact, and fell in love with it. Absolutely amazing.

Congratulations Mr. Palencar! The work is always amazing and definitely worthy of recognition. I can’t help but equate De Lint and Palencar and I am thrilled that both creators continue to be paired together.

Congratulations! January 31, 2010: Edmonton Alberta Canada had the privilege of hosting Charles de Lint at the Public Library for a “Writer’s Corner” reading and question and answer. Charles de Lint is a prolific and genuine writer and it was a pleasure to be in the audience to hear him. He is truly a gracious gentleman and a multifaceted writer and musician.
Can’t wait for the next work.

John’s amazing. And John’s -been- amazing since he first grabbed a pencil I suspect. There has never been a time in his career that he didn’t seem to know exactly what he wanted to envision. Sometimes creepy, sometimes stunningly beautiful. Always remarkable and compelling.

I’ve been waiting to see this for years. Great to hear about the award, John!

Congratulations!
