They’re back—finally. It’s been two whole years since Poison Ivy and Kite Man’s wedding didn’t quite go as planned. Season two still had a happy ending—just for a different pair. Now, Harley (Kaley Cuoco) and Ivy (Lake Bell) are full of love and attitude and elaborate plans for Gotham. What could go wrong?
At this point, terraforming seems like a decent plan where Gotham is concerned. Everyone else has had a go at making it better/worse/more good/more evil; why not let the plants have a go? Meanwhile, the Joker (Alan Tudyk) is running for mayor (and spoofing a certain Joker scene); Nightwing (Harvey Guillén) is brooding; Batgirl (Briana Cuoco) is doing Batgirl stuff; and Christopher Meloni’s Jim Gordon is probably still having a really tough time.
Also Catwoman (Sanaa Lathan) is going to show up and murder everyone with her extreme disinterest, and we’re going to love her all the more for it.
Harley Quinn’s voice cast is delight after delight, just like the show is curse after murder after screeching, beautiful disaster. Yes, that’s Office Space’s Diedrich Bader as Batman. Yes, Ron Funches is the greatest King Shark ever to walk on his own two … flippers? Vanessa Marshall (Rebels’ Hera Syndulla) voices Wonder Woman! Giancarlo Esposito is Lex Luthor! And also this show has the most adorable Bane you could possibly imagine. No, seriously.
I want only good things for Harley and Ivy, but historically, love doesn’t really thrive in Gotham. Maybe after it’s terraformed, though? Harley Quinn returns to HBO Max on July 28th.
