Back in 2014, writer and director David Robert Mitchell put out a horror film that became an instant cult classic. That film, of course, is It Follows, starring Maika Monroe (pictured above in the movie). And after almost a decade, Monroe and Mitchell are teaming up again to bring a sequel to the big screen titled They Follow.

It Follows centers on Monroe’s character Jay Height, a woman who is stalked by a supernatural force after she has sex with someone who is “infected” by said malevolent force. The only way for Jay to survive is to have sex with someone else, who the evil entity will then prioritize killing first. It made over $23 million on a $2 million budget and is an undisputed success.
In They Follow, Monroe will be reprising her role as Jay, though we don’t know much more than that about the specifics of the story in the sequel. We also don’t have a distribution date yet, though NEON, the studio behind movies like Parasite and It Lives Inside, will be producing it, with production starting sometime in 2024. This will be the second time that Mitchell has worked with NEON CEO Tom Quinn, as Quinn’s label, RADiUS, was the one to release It Follows in 2014.
In addition to It Follows, Mitchell wrote, produced, and directed 2018’s Under the Silver Lake, which stars Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough. Since 2014, Monroe acted in several films, including Greta, Hot Summer Nights, Villains, Honey Boy, and Watcher. She is co-starring in the upcoming Oz Perkins movie Longlegs, which also stars Nicholas Cage.
No news yet on when They Follow will sneak up on you at your local theater.
