In Line with Doctor Who Fans: Tacarra the Lady Eleven!

Tor.com was recently in line at the 4/11 NYC Doctor Who premiere with a ton of fans. We’ll be shining a spotlight on a few of them leading all the way up to April 23rd.

I have a soft spot for lady Doctors. Not just the ones who dress up as the Doctor himself, but the ones who make the effort to create female versions of the Doctor’s wardrobe. Since fan speculation often runs into the question of whether or not the Doctor could regenerate into a woman, it seems natural to ask: if the fifth (or third or tenth, etc) Doctor had been a girl, how would that outfit have turned out?

Tacarra Williams gave a splendid show in her female eleventh Doctor costume, and I was so intrigued, I decided that she was going to be my next interview.

Tacarra Williams at the Doctor Who Line ConWhat was your first exposure to Doctor Who?

Flipping through BBC America, gosh, whenever that was. First episode I saw was “Daleks in Manhattan.” And my mom thought it was weird and I thought, “Well, if you think it’s weird then it must be fantastic.” So then I decided to start watching Doctor Who.

What other types of science fiction and fantasy do you enjoy?

It’s mostly Doctor Who and Harry Potter. I don’t know if Chronicles of Narnia counts. [Ed: Oh, definitely.]

Favorite Doctor?

Favorite Doctor, oh my gosh, what kind of question is that? I think my favorite has to be Tom Baker.

Favorite companion?

[instant answer] Donna Noble.

Favorite villain?

The Master. He’s got that half-evil, half-childish thing, and some people think I’m a little bit nuts, but I feel bad for him. Because he was very much thrown into his situation, and he could have made better decisions, but he was also a little bit loopy. You know, you throw in some crazy and you never know what you’re going to get.

Is there anything you would like to see them do on the show that they haven’t done?

Tie up some loose ends. And give Amy a bit more of an opportunity to prove herself, instead of just happening to be circumstantially involved.

What is something that you like about Doctor Who that you think might not be as popular with other fans?

Perhaps the fact that the Eleventh Doctor seems to have ADD just a little bit?

Tacarra was photographed with the many Doctors at the Line Con and you can see a lot more of her from the event albums on the BBC America Facebook page.

Emmet Asher-Perrin figures that if she ever dressed up as a lady Doctor, it would probably be Five, as she does love her some cricket. You can bug her on Twitter and read more of her work here and elsewhere.
