Nine years after Pixar’s first Inside Out film hit theaters, we’ve got a sequel coming our way, appropriately titled Inside Out 2. Young Riley, the girl who housed the emotions we met in the first feature, has entered the horror that is teenagerdom, and as such has a slew of new emotions setting up shop inside her brain.
We’ve already met one of them—that pesky emotion called Anxiety (Maya Hawke). The latest trailer, however, has introduced us to a few more: Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser).
The trailer also reveals some of the teenage angst that Riley (now with braces and voiced by Kensington Tallman) is facing—she’s about to begin high school, where she looks up to some cool girls on the hockey team, particularly Valentina “Val” Ortiz (Lilimar). The big changes Riley faces cause Anxiety, helped by Embarrassment, to bottle up her OG emotions—Joy (Amy Poehler), Anger (Lewis Black), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Tony Hale, taking over the part from Bill Hader), and Disgust (Liza Lapira, taking over the part from Mindy Kaling).
The movie comes from director Kelsey Mann, whose previous credits include writing the story for The Good Dinosaur. Other voice talents featured in the film are Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan returning as Riley’s mom and dad; Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green and Grace Lu as Riley’s besties; and Yvette Nicole Brown as Coach Roberts, who heads up a summer hockey camp. Other voice cast members include Sarayu Blue, Flea, Ron Funches, Dave Goelz, James Austin Johnson, Bobby Moynihan, Frank Oz, Paula Pell, Paula Poundstone, John Ratzenberger, Kendall Coyne Schofield, June Squibb, Kirk Thatcher, and Yong Yea.
Inside Out 2 premieres in theaters on June 14, 2024.
