Jim Butcher’s new Dresden Files novel, Twelve Months, is still more than seven months away. But the occasion of the book’s announcement led to a piece on Butcher in The New York Times that’s something of an overview of his 25-year, 14-million-books-sold career so far. And tucked into the conversation is a teaser for fans who might still be hoping for a Dresden Files adaptation that lasts longer than a single season: Butcher is “negotiating to be a producer on a plan to turn three ‘Dresden Files’ books into a new series.”
Writer Benjamin Mullin continues:
The project, which has not yet been announced, would focus on Harry Dresden’s war against the vampires who infected his girlfriend, Susan Rodriguez. He hopes to do some of the screenwriting.
“There’s serious enough talks happening that I’ve had to share my tax I.D. number and so on,” Butcher said. “But we’ll see. I don’t know if anything’s going to happen or not.”
The previous Dresden Files adaptation starred Paul Blackthorne (Arrow), and aired in 2007 on what was then known as Sci Fi. Butcher notes in the Times interview that the network did not even send him a set of the DVDs.
Twelve Months, the 18th Dresden Files novel, will be available January 20, 2026. We’ll just have to wait and see if a series appears after that.
