Somehow, there are at least two more Quiet Places on the way. One is a third film in the original Quiet timeline. The other is a prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One, which has now found its star: Black Panther‘s Lupita Nyong’o is in “final negotiations” to move from superheroes to super-murdery aliens.

Little is known about Day One, other than that the subtitle makes it pretty clear we’re back at the beginning of the alien invasion. The original Quiet Place starred John Krasinski (who also directed the film) and Emily Blunt as parents trying to keep their family alive in a world in which giant alien bugs kill the heck out of anything that makes a sound. Krasinski’s character didn’t survive the film, but the actor returned to direct A Quiet Place: Part II, which filled out its cast of alien-fodder with Cillian Murphy, Djimon Hounsou, Okieriete Onaodowan, and Scoot McNairy.

Pig director Michael Sarnoski will direct Day One, which is based on an idea by Krasinski. Seeing as this one takes place before the original Quiet Place, it’s entirely possible Krasinski and/or Blunt could appear—but no one knows anything about the plot just yet.

Nyong’o has been busy since her first major film role, in 12 Years a Slave, earned her an Oscar. She played the alien Maz Kanata in the latest Star Wars trilogy; starred in Jordan Peele’s Us; voiced Raksha in the live-action Jungle Book; and, of course, is Black Panther’s Nakia (above), who returns to screens in just a few weeks in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

A Quiet Place: Day One invades theaters on March 8, 2024. If you would like to consider the first two films anew, Leah Schnelbach is here for you.
