The cast of The Witcher is expanding again: According to The Hollywood Reporter, seven more actors have officially joined the show for its second season. It’s an intriguing handful of actors with credits ranging from Four Weddings and a Funeral to The Hobbit—playing characters with important roles in this world.
Read on for the new castmembers, and a little background on their book characters (though of course details may change for the show).

- Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton) plays Nenneke, the head of the Temple of Melitele, who has known Geralt for a long time. She appears in “The Voice of Reason,” the framing story of The Last Wish.
- Cassie Clare (Brave New World) plays Philippa Eilhart, a sorceress and advisor to King Vizimir II who gets in Geralt’s way in Blood of Elves.
- Simon Callow (Outlander) and Liz Carr (The OA) play Codringher and Fenn, partners in a somewhat dubious law firm and detective agency. These two don’t show up until Time of Contempt. (Fenn is Jacob Fenn in the books, so the show is shifting to a female take on the character.)
- Frequent genre actor Graham McTavish (Outlander, The Hobbit) plays Dijkstra, the towering Redanian spymaster.
- Kevin Doyle (Downton Abbey) plays Ba’lian, who is reportedly a new character.
- Chris Fulton (Outlaw King) plays Rience, the mage sent to find Ciri after her escape from the destruction of Cintra in Blood of Elves.
Okay, what does this mean?
All in all, the cast sheet matches up with the events of Blood of Elves and Time of Contempt, the two books that chronicle the events following The Last Wish, which the first season of Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher broadly covered.
The two novels comprise a long storyline detailing Ciri’s magic and combat training, first provided by Geralt, then followed up on by Yennefer. There’s quite a few other twists and turns involved, but viewers should expect a season that really builds and defines Ciri’s character. (And which probably includes another absolute earworm from Jaskier because why wouldn’t you?)
Last year, seven other new characters were announced for season two, including Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) as Nivellen. There’s still no premiere date, though the second season is expected to appear on Netflix this year.
