Rob Zombie’s PG-rated feature about the lovable Transylvanian family, The Munsters, has got the Mistress of the Dark on board to play Barbara Carr.
Zombie broke the news himself on his social media accounts today. “ATTENTION CASTING NEWS!,” he wrote. “Straight from the set of THE MUNSTERS is your first look at Barbara Carr, the #1 real estate agent in all of Mockingbird Heights. Barbara is played by none other the CASSANDRA PETERSON @therealelvira. Yes, the Mistress of the Dark has joined the cast of THE MUNSTERS. Stay tuned for more exciting news to come.”

The original television series ran in the 1960s and centered around the Munsters, a family who lived in the fictional suburb of Mockingbird Heights and considered themselves to be a very normal, non-ghoulish household even though they had a pet dinosaur living under their stairs (among other things).
Peterson is best known for being Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, a persona with strong goth vibes and a fervent fan base. Elvira has starred, hosted, and dropped in for guest spots as a pop culture figure for over four decades, most recently in the Netflix and Chills horror festival (pictured above). Having Peterson take on the role of the bubbly and prim Barbara Carr is a departure from Elvira, but one that will no doubt be of great interest to both Munsters and Elvira fans.
Zombie announced his Munsters project back in June 2021, and the film is currently in production. Zombie has previously announced that Jeff Daniel Phillips will play Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie will portray Lily Munster, and Daniel Roebuck will be Grandpa Munster. Other known casting includes Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, Sylvester McCoy as Igor, Catherine Schell as Zoya Krupp, and Jorge Garcia as Floop.
No news yet on when The Munsters will premiere, but when it does, it will stream directly on Peacock.
