Spider King cover for Serial Box by Justin Key

If you’re afraid of spiders, brace yourself now: Serial Box is about to publish Spider King, a four-part horror miniseries from Justin C. Key that will definitely get under your skin.

Key described Spider King succinctly on Twitter: “Wrongly accused. Locked up. Facing years due to a corrupt system. The plea deal: volunteer your body for experimentation. What would you do?”

Serial Box gives a little more detail about the story:

To earn his freedom, an incarcerated Black man agrees to an experimental procedure that makes him a breeding ground for mutant spiders.

And their “Why Serial Boxers love it” note give a little more sense of what kind of tale Spider King is:

For fans of Jordan Peele + Lovecraft Country✂️
Body horror FTW😱
Eviscerates the prison industrial complex⚠️

As is always the case with Serial Box, the miniseries will be available as an ebook or audiobook (read by William DeMeritt).

Key is a writer and doctor whose stories have appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Escape Pod, Strange Horizons, and others—including here at Tor.com, where you can read “The Perfection of Theresa Watkins” (which, like Spider King, was edited by Diana Pho).

Spider King is available for pre-order now, and will be available on Serial Box beginning February 15th.
