We’re getting more American Gods! Deadline has reported that Starz renewed the show for a second season, which is expected to premiere in mid-2018. Season one premiered on April 30th to rapturous reviews.
The show, which is being adapted from Neil Gaiman’s 2001 novel by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, stars Ian McShane as the deceptively charming conman Mr. Wednesday, and Ricky Whittle as his bodyguard/apprentice, Shadow Moon.
Starz programming president Carmi Zlotnik praised the show and its creators, saying, “Bryan Fuller, Michael Green and Neil Gaiman have evolved the art form of television narratively, structurally and graphically with American Gods, and we’re thrilled to be working again with these artists as they continue to build the worlds and wars of the gods.” And FremantleMedia co-CEO Craig Cegielski was effusive, saying, “Neil Gaiman, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green have ignited a conversation through cinematic magic, presented through a diverse ensemble of actors that continue to keep us engaged and inspired.”
We’re only two weeks into Season One, but we’ve already met an assortment of gods, and travelled across a good piece of America. Season One will probably only take us as far as Wisconsin, so what do you think Season Two has in store? We should make it to The House on the Rock, but will we also get to drop in on Lakeside? When do we meet Sam? And maybe most important—Fuller and Green have talked about adding new gods to the show! Which deities would you like to see join the American Gods pantheon?
