Warner Bros’ Suicide Squad—which director David Ayer describes as “a Dirty Dozen with supervillains”—has officially announced its cast! Deadline has the scoop, though much of this news we’ve already heard via the rumor mill: Jared Leto will play the Joker, with Margot Robbie indeed playing Harley Quinn; Will Smith is the aptly-named assassin Deadshot; Tom Hardy leads the group as Rick Flagg (reports have the name with two Gs, though in the comics he’s Rick Flag).
Also joining the cast is Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard) as baddie Boomerang, which makes sense since both actor and character are Australian. Model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne—who is apparently having a moment, as she’s also starring in the adaptation of John Green’s Paper Towns and pops up in Pan as a mermaid—rounds out the group as the magic-wielding Enchantress.
While the cast doesn’t entirely match the current Suicide Squad comic—Harley Quinn and Deadshot are the only ones from the above image—the summary seems to match the comics’ canon: A secret government program brings these supervillains together to tackle risky black-ops missions in exchange for shorter prison sentences.
“We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero,” said Warner Bros president Greg Silverman in a statement. But when will we find out who plays Amanda Waller?
