Algorithms and book recommendation lists can help us answer this question, but they still can’t top getting personal advice from other smart, like-minded readers. More often than not, this is exactly how our favorite stories find a permanent home in our hearts.

What She Likes Most About Good Omens Is:
It is hilarious and irreverent without being mean-spirited. (It is also somehow timeless while being hopelessly dated.) I love slapstick humor in prose. (It is a disease I have.) I’m a sucker for stories that feature opposites who form unlikely relationships, like Aziraphale and Crowley, and anything featuring kids who truly seem like children, like the Them. The fact that the main plot centers around something dire–biblical Armageddon–and still manages its bent toward optimism is a selling point as well.
