Sure, we all loved Jodie Whittaker’s video introduction where she is still clearly wearing the Twelfth Doctor’s clothes, but revealing the new Doctor’s costume has always been a fun form of theatre that fans get to enjoy every time a new actor takes on the role. And now the Thirteenth Doctor’s wardrobe has been revealed! Prepare yourselves….

Hell. Yes.
Okay, there’s a lot going on here, but this is so much fun. It’s exciting to have some more color reintroduced to the Doctor’s clothes (though never on par with The Rainbow Coat of Holding that the Sixth Doctor was fond of, as is only right). We’ve got a floaty gray duster combined with a hemmed wide-leg trouser that fits some excellent yellow suspenders–or braces, if you’re in the UK–along with a rainbow stripe on the shirt. Boots and socks complete the ensemble for something that looks whimsical and stylish at the same time.
There is a crazy 70s vibe going on here, as many have already noted. See, the musical Godspell:
And of course, everyone’s favorite sitcom alien before 3rd Rock From the Sun was even a glimmer in NBC’s eye:

By the way, for fans keeping track, her TARDIS looks a heckuva lot more like the TARDIS from the 70s and 80s era of the show, which really complements the costume.
So what does this mean for Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor? Will she be a bit more comedic, perhaps more jolly? Is she a free-wheeling kind of Time Lord, a bit more approachable than previous incarnations? Whatever this points to, one thing is for sure—this is gonna be so much fun to cosplay.
