Everything’s getting a prequel these days—including The Wheel of Time. According to Deadline, screenwriter Zack Stentz (Thor) is writing The White Tower, an animated film that’s being developed by iwot productions. The story is described as being “set in a time before the events chronicled in The Wheel of Time TV series from Amazon and Sony,” which is a confusing way to frame things given that said TV series is based on Robert Jordan’s books—where does this animated movie fit in to the original timeline?
Or does it? Apparently, The White Tower is a new, original story set in Jordan’s world.
Deadline says, “This is being described as an action-adventure about a young girl with a special gift whose life is forever changed when evil visits her remote mountain village. Finding herself alone in a dangerous world, she must go to The White Tower to learn how to use her magical powers in order to save her family and friends.”
The movie is produced by Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon, who are also executive producers on Amazon’s The Wheel of Time. Selvage is quoted as saying, “The animation platform has given us the means to expand The Wheel of Time experience by targeting a young adult audience while remaining loyal to the world long cherished by Wheel of Time fans.”
Did anyone else just think, like, Muppet Babies, but for Wheel of Time? No release date has been announced, so it’ll be a while before we see what this looks like.
