The V/H/S anthology franchise is back, and this time we’re getting some found footage set in the mid-1980s to scare the leg warmers right off your feet!
As the trailer makes clear, this latest installment features the pixelation and soundtrack that were ever-present in media about forty years ago. (One scene even gave off some Tron vibes, and I hope that some nod to that film, although it came out in 1982 and not 1985, is present in the movie.) Given some of the grainy shots of gore, it also appears to channel some of the slasher movies that were popular at the time as well.
Here’s the official synopsis:
An ominous mixtape blends never before seen snuff footage with nightmarish newscasts and disturbing home video to create a surreal, analog mashup of the forgotten 80s.
Another thing impressive about the eighth addition to the franchise is the horror pedigree of the filmmakers who directed different segments of the 110-minute movie. Those directors include David Bruckner (Hellraiser, The Night House), Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone, Sinister), Gigi Saul Guerrero (Bingo Hell, Culture Shock), Natasha Kermani (Lucky), and Mike Nelson (Wrong Turn).
V/H/S/85 premieres on Shudder (which you can access via the AMC+ streaming platform) on October 6, 2023.
