Into the Woods has caused considerable furor long before its Christmas Day release, with rumors that Disney had cut the musical’s sexiest song for the movie adaptation. (Don’t worry, they didn’t.) Now, the first teaser trailer is out, allowing us our first chance to ponder the movie based on actual footage and not just set photos and hearsay.
Meryl Streep certainly looks creepy as The Witch, though we weren’t surprised on that count. Mostly the trailer just sets up the vast, magical woods of the title, giving us a glimpse at all the key players—Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt—without telling us much about The Wolf, Cinderella and her Prince, the Baker’s Wife, and the other characters who all really should be more judicious about their wishing.
Alas, we don’t get hints of any of the songs. That’s not too unusual for a teaser, but something we hope comes through in the first full trailer.
