We’re holding out hope for another Rogue One trailer before it hits theaters in December, but in the meantime, this international trailer features a few seconds of new footage—and they’re very valuable seconds. We’re not talking about Darth Vader rasping at Director Orson Krennic, but about the flashbacks to Jyn Erso’s (Felicity Jones) childhood.
For one, not only did Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) engineer the Death Star, but he also warned the Rebellion about it. And what about this mysterious crystal necklace that Jyn’s mother gives her before her parents are taken away from her?
Which she of course keeps into adulthood:
Clearly it’s a Very Important Piece of Jewelry Look It Means Something! Could a copy of the Death Star plans have been inscribed in it all along? Or perhaps it’s a Kyber crystal, used as both a lightsaber blade and—dun dun dun—a Death Star laser.
