It feels like it’s been years since the first season of Paramount Plus’s Halo made its debut. And in fact by the time season two rolls around, it will have been nearly two whole years since the successful video game adaptation first aired—and became the streaming platform’s second most-watched show.
Now, you can watch that first season even if you’re not a subscriber, because the entire first season is currently free to watch on YouTube.
Halo may not have been a total smash among its game-playing audience, but as a science fiction series, it’s solid and entertaining, futuristic and action-packed but with a considerable focus on character. And the cast is great: Pablo Schreiber as John/Master Chief, Natasha McElhone as Dr. Halsey, Kate Kennedy as Kai, Jen Taylor as Cortana, Charlie Murphy as Makee, Yerin Ha as Kwan, and Bokeem Woodbine as Soren. The Originals’ Joseph Morgan is among the actors joining the series for the next season.
In an interview after the first season finale aired, executive producer Kiki Wolfkill said, “What’s important for season two is that John continues to grow and evolve and his understanding and his role as Master Chief should continue to grow and evolve. He should continue to be a bad-ass Spartan, but I also think that there is sort of a journey he’s still on as a person in the suit, which ultimately, the idea is that that’s part of what makes him such an extraordinary soldier as well.”
Tomorrow, Brazil’s CCXP plays host to a Paramount+ panel that features the stars of Halo, and will likely tell us more about season two, which premieres February 8, 2024.
