The Grace of Kings and The Wall of Storms author Ken Liu’s work is headed to the big screen! Studio 8 has acquired the movie rights not to his Dandelion Dynasty series, but to a short story that hasn’t even come out yet: “The Hidden Girl,” which will appear in 2017’s The Book of Swords, an anthology edited by Gardner Dozois. Described as Interstellar meets Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, “The Hidden Girl” follows a group of assassins who can cross between dimensions.
Deadline’s report suggests that the movie version of “The Hidden Girl” will be a time travel action film. Studio 8 has acquired several projects recently, including an adaptation of Hugh Howey’s Beacon 23 for television and a Daily Beast article about Osama bin Laden.
Liu shared the news on his website, adding,
Big thanks to Studio 8’s Rishi Rajani and Chris Goldberg for taking on this project, and I’m super excited to be working with them to bring this project to fruition.
“Deadline’s report suggests the movie version of “The Hidden Girl” will be a time travel action film.”
… I read the linked article and it didn’t seem to suggest anything of the sort. The words time travel aren’t even there.
Maybe an earlier report did, from someone who didn’t grasp the difference between time travel and alternate dimension, and once they realized they were giving the wrong idea they edited it?
