First, there was The Walking Dead. Then, there was Fear the Walking Dead. Now, we’re getting a third series in the franchise, and AMC just dropped its mysterious first teaser.
The teaser doesn’t contain any actual footage of the new spin-off. Instead, it features talking heads of the largely teenage cast, talking about leaving a world of safety to find themselves as they come-of-age in The Walking Dead’s post-apocalyptic world. We also get glimpses at the new series’ concept art, featuring flowers growing over ruins and the corpses of defeated walkers, suggesting that it takes place quite a bit of time after the original series.
There’s no word on the actual plot (or even the name of the series), but details revealed during San Diego Comic-Con indicate The Walking Dead franchise is heading into YA territory. Polygon reported that the main characters will be “young adults” who grew up “behind walls,” and are now venturing into the zombie-infested world for the first time.
“They know what walkers are, they know how to kill them, but they’ve never done it,” The Walking Dead chief content officer Scott Gimple said, according to Polygon. “We’re going to see some of these kids become heroes, and some becomes villains.”

The (as-yet-untitled) Walking Dead spin-off series will premiere on AMC in Spring 2020.
