Time travel is a well-trod trope in science fiction, and the movie Aporia, starring Judy Greer, Edi Gathegi, Payman Maadi, and Faithe Herman, gives us another take on the conceit—with what appear to be predictable results.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Sophie (Greer) is virtually drowning in grief after losing her husband (Gathegi) in an accident, but after learning of a top-secret time-bending machine, she will be faced with an impossible choice—and unforeseeable consequences.

The trailer reveals that Sophie’s husband was killed by a drunk driver, and that her friend (Maadi) has created a time travel device that will allow them to shoot anyone in history. Presumably, they use it to shoot the drunk driver before he can kill Gathegi’s character, and while Sophie’s husband comes back, there are, of course, unexpected consequences.

The film is being distributed by Well Go USA, the company behind movies like the zombie K-horror flick Train to Busan, Triple Threat, and Ip Man. Aporia suggests they are branching out a bit with what they distribute, and it’s also great to finally see Greer in a leading role.

The film is directed by Jared Moshé (The Ballad of Lefty Brown) and is set to premiere in select theaters on August 11, 2023.
